A fun and visually stunning layered lemonade drink that changes color as cotton candy dissolves, combining tart fresh lemon juice with sweet cotton candy for a magical summer refreshment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large fresh lemons, juiced (about 1 cup / 240 ml lemon juice)
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 4 cups (950 ml) water, divided (2 cups for simple syrup, 2 cups to dilute lemon juice)
  • Cotton candy, about 1 large puff per glass (30-40 g), any color/flavor
  • Ice cubes, as needed (preferably clear ice)
  • Optional: fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup by combining 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated sugar in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves (3-4 minutes). Remove from heat and cool completely (about 15 minutes).
  2. Juice the lemons until you have about 1 cup fresh lemon juice. Strain out seeds and pulp.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and 2 cups cold water. Stir gently and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Fill tall clear glasses with ice cubes.
  5. Place one large puff of cotton candy gently on top of the ice in each glass.
  6. Slowly pour the chilled lemonade over the cotton candy, allowing it to dissolve and create the color-changing effect.
  7. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired and serve immediately with a straw or stirrer.

Notes

Use very cold lemonade and ice to slow cotton candy dissolving for longer-lasting layers. Pour lemonade slowly over the back of a spoon to preserve layers. Use fluffy cotton candy for best effect. Fresh lemon juice is key for bright flavor. Store lemonade base in fridge up to 3 days; add cotton candy fresh at serving.
