This buffalo chicken dip is thick, creamy, and perfectly balanced with tangy, spicy, and salty flavors. The spider web design makes it a showstopper for Halloween or any party, and it’s forgiving enough for a weeknight craving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot Original)
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (for spider web decoration)
  • Black olives, sliced (for spiders)
  • Optional: Green onions or chives, chopped (for garnish)
  • Tortilla chips, crackers, or celery sticks (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, or microwave on low power for 15-20 seconds.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream, and ranch dressing. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides halfway through.
  4. Add the buffalo hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix on low speed until combined. Taste and adjust heat if desired.
  5. Fold in the shredded chicken, 1 cup of the shredded cheddar, and all of the mozzarella until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a 9-inch pie plate or shallow baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until hot, bubbly, and the cheese is melted and slightly browned around the edges.
  9. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes to set.
  10. While the dip rests, fill a small zip-top bag with the 1/2 cup sour cream and snip off a tiny corner (about 1/8 inch). Pipe a small circle in the center of the dip, then pipe concentric circles around it, spacing them about 1 inch apart (3-4 circles total). Using a toothpick or knife tip, drag lines from the center outward through all the circles, repeating 6-8 times to create a web pattern.
  11. Place sliced black olives on the web to resemble spiders.
  12. Garnish with chopped green onions or chives if desired. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, crackers, or celery sticks.

Notes

For best texture, use full-fat cream cheese and sour cream. Let the dip rest 5 minutes before piping the web to prevent the sour cream from melting. If making ahead, assemble without top cheese and web, refrigerate, then add cheese and bake with 5-10 extra minutes. For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or drizzle hot sauce after baking.
