Tender cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, baked in a sweet caramel-like sauce. This quick and easy dessert comes together in under an hour and tastes like a hug in a baking dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)
  • Caramel sauce (optional, for drizzling)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel apples, cut in half, core, and cut each half into 4 wedges (32 wedges total).
  3. In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangles along perforations.
  5. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle, roll up, tucking in sides, and place seam-side down in the prepared dish.
  6. Brush melted butter over each wrapped wedge, then sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top.
  7. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, vanilla, lemon juice, and water. Stir until butter melts and sugar dissolves (3-4 minutes). Remove from heat.
  8. Pour hot sauce evenly over the dumplings.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until dough is golden brown and apples are tender. Halfway through, spoon sauce from the bottom over the dumplings.
  10. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and optional toppings.

Notes

Don’t skip the lemon juice in the sauce—it brightens the flavor. If dough browns too quickly, tent with foil. For extra sauce, make 1.5 times the sauce recipe. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
