A quick and easy recipe for a cozy brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso that tastes like a coffee shop treat but is made at home with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup oat milk
  • Ice cubes
  • Pinch of salt (optional but recommended)
  • Cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso. Pull two shots of espresso (about 2 ounces total) into a small heatproof cup or directly into your mason jar.
  2. Add the brown sugar. While the espresso is still hot, add the 2 tablespoons of packed brown sugar. Stir immediately until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Add ice to your mason jar. Fill your jar about halfway with ice cubes.
  4. Pour the sweetened espresso over the ice. Pour the hot espresso-sugar mixture directly over the ice.
  5. Shake vigorously. Secure the lid tightly and shake the jar as hard as you can for about 15-20 seconds.
  6. Fill your serving glass with fresh ice. While the espresso is shaking, fill your tall glass with fresh ice cubes.
  7. Pour the shaken espresso over the fresh ice. Pour the entire contents of the jar (including the foam) over the fresh ice.
  8. Top with oat milk. Slowly pour the oat milk over the back of a spoon to create a layered effect. Pour about 1 cup, or until your glass is full.
  9. Optional: Add a pinch of salt and garnish. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of flaky salt on top, and dust with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
  10. Stir gently and enjoy. Give it a gentle stir to combine the layers, or drink it as-is for a different experience with each sip.

Notes

Use hot espresso for the sugar to ensure it dissolves properly. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to create foam. Don’t skip the fresh ice to avoid a watery drink. Best enjoyed immediately.
