A nostalgic, creamy orange jello salad that blends tangy citrus with smooth cream cheese and whipped topping for a light, crowd-pleasing dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 oz orange gelatin mix (about 1 packet)
  • 1 cup boiling water (240 ml)
  • 1 cup cold water (240 ml)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (225 g)
  • 8 oz whipped topping, thawed (225 g)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (120 ml)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (60 g)
  • 1 tsp orange zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour the orange gelatin mix into a heatproof bowl. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir for about 2 minutes until completely dissolved and clear.
  2. Stir in 1 cup cold water to cool the gelatin and help it start setting.
  3. While the gelatin cools slightly (about 5 minutes), beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add sour cream and powdered sugar to the cream cheese. Beat until well combined and fluffy.
  5. Slowly pour about half the cooled gelatin mixture into the cream cheese mixture, beating gently to combine. Then add the remaining gelatin and mix just until smooth.
  6. Gently fold in the whipped topping using a rubber spatula until fully incorporated and light orange in color.
  7. Fold in the orange zest for extra citrus aroma.
  8. Pour the mixture into a serving dish or individual cups. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight until firm and jiggly.
  9. Serve chilled, scooping or slicing as desired.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is fully softened and beaten smooth before mixing with gelatin to avoid lumps. Let gelatin cool to warm but not set before combining to prevent clumps. Fold whipped topping gently to maintain airiness. Chill at least 4 hours or overnight for best texture. Store covered in refrigerator up to 3 days. Avoid freezing.
