A quick and fun Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in flaky puff pastry strips to look like mummies, perfect for parties and kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs (all-beef preferred)
  • 1 package (8 oz or about 230g) puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • Mustard or ketchup for decorating the eyes
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water (egg wash)
  • Optional: pinch of garlic powder or smoked paprika for brushing on pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Slice the pastry into thin strips about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  3. Wrap each hot dog with the pastry strips, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages and leaving a small section uncovered near the top for the face.
  4. Brush the wrapped hot dogs gently with the egg wash using a basting brush.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the baking sheet, spacing about an inch apart.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  7. After baking, dot mustard or ketchup on the exposed hot dog section to create eyes using a toothpick or knife tip.
  8. Serve warm, fresh out of the oven.

Notes

If puff pastry feels sticky, chill for 5 minutes before wrapping. Do not overwrap pastry strips to allow steam to escape and keep pastry crisp. Brushing with egg wash is essential for golden color. You can prepare wrapped hot dogs ahead and refrigerate before baking, adding extra baking time if baking from cold. For gluten-free, use gluten-free puff pastry alternatives but texture may vary. Crescent roll dough can be used but will be less flaky.
