These Easy Mummy Hot Dogs are the perfect Halloween appetizer—quick, simple, and fun. Made with just three main ingredients, they look impressive but come together in under 20 minutes, making them a crowd-pleaser for parties and spooky movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 count) hot dogs (beef hot dogs recommended)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • Mustard for eyes (yellow mustard recommended)
  • Cooking spray or melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for sprinkling)
  • Ketchup or ranch dressing (optional, for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board or countertop. Press the seams together gently with your fingers to create one large rectangle of dough.
  3. Cut the dough into thin strips about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. You should get around 8 to 10 strips per can of dough.
  4. Take one strip of dough and start wrapping it around a hot dog at a slight angle. Leave a small gap at the top for the ‘face’ area. Overlap the dough slightly as you wrap. Tuck the end of the dough under the last wrap to secure it. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each one.
  6. Optional: Brush with melted butter or spray with cooking spray for a golden-brown crust.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed. Keep an eye on them after the 10-minute mark.
  8. Let them cool for 2 to 3 minutes on the baking sheet before adding the mustard eyes.
  9. Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, dab two small dots of mustard on the exposed hot dog area at the top of each mummy to create eyes.
  10. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature hot dogs and cold dough. If dough gets too warm and sticky, refrigerate for a few minutes. Leave a gap at the top for the eyes. For make-ahead, wrap hot dogs up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate; add 1-2 minutes to baking time. To freeze, wrap and freeze before baking, then bake from frozen adding 3-5 minutes.
