These Easy Mummy Hot Dogs with Melty Cheese Eyes are a fun, simple, and delicious Halloween treat that comes together in under 30 minutes with just 4 ingredients. Perfect for parties, classroom treats, or a last-minute spooky snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-size hot dogs
  • 1 can (8-count) crescent roll dough
  • 4 slices provolone or white cheddar cheese
  • Yellow mustard (for wrapping details)
  • Cooking spray or butter for greasing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
  2. Use a small round cutter (about 1 inch) to punch out 16 cheese circles from the cheese slices. Set aside on a plate and refrigerate if your kitchen is warm.
  3. Open the can of crescent rolls and separate along the perforations to get 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3-4 thin strips, about half an inch wide.
  4. Take one hot dog and wrap a dough strip around it, starting at one end and working to the other, leaving about an inch of exposed hot dog at the top for the face. Wrap loosely, leaving small gaps between strips. Repeat with all 8 hot dogs and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
  5. Gently press two cheese circles onto each mummy’s exposed face area, pressing just enough so they stick.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and the cheese eyes have melted and puffed slightly.
  7. Let the mummies cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes. Then use a squeeze bottle of yellow mustard to draw bandage lines across the wrapped sections and add tiny mustard dots to the cheese eyes for pupils.
  8. Serve warm while the cheese is still melty.

Notes

Cold dough is easier to work with. Don’t wrap too tightly—leave gaps for expansion. Cheese eyes should be pressed gently but firmly. Let mummies rest before serving to avoid burns. Can be wrapped and refrigerated up to 4 hours before baking (add cheese eyes just before baking).
