These adorable mummy hot dogs are wrapped in flaky crescent dough and served with a tangy mustard dip. They’re the easiest Halloween appetizer you’ll ever make, ready in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 24 mini cocktail sausages or hot dogs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Mustard or ketchup for the eyes
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll crescent dough onto a cutting board. If using perforated triangles, press seams together to form a solid sheet. Cut dough lengthwise into 8-10 thin strips.
  3. Place a cocktail sausage at the end of a dough strip and wrap it around, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining sausages and dough strips.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together egg and water. Lightly brush the top of each mummy with the egg wash.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until dough is puffed and golden brown.
  6. Let cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. Use a toothpick to dab tiny dots of mustard or ketchup onto the exposed sausage for eyes.
  7. While mummies bake, whisk together sour cream, Dijon mustard, honey, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  8. Arrange mummies on a platter around the bowl of mustard dip. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Don’t overwork the dough; work quickly and gently. Leave space between mummies on the baking sheet. Use a light hand with the egg wash. A pizza cutter makes cutting dough strips easier. Don’t skip parchment paper for easy cleanup. The mustard dip can be made a day ahead and actually improves in flavor.
