Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) cherry-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blueberry or berry-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka
  • Optional garnishes: small US flag toothpicks, fresh blueberries, or whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Make the red layer: In a medium bowl, pour 1 cup boiling water over the cherry gelatin powder. Stir for about 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Add 1/2 cup vodka and mix well. Pour evenly into shot cups, filling about 1/3 of each cup. Chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes or until firm but slightly tacky.
  2. Create the white layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes. Heat gently until dissolved (about 1 minute). Mix sweetened condensed milk with 1/2 cup vodka. Combine gelatin mixture into the milk-vodka mix and stir well. Once the red layer is tacky, carefully add the white layer to fill another 1/3 of each cup. Chill for 30 minutes or until just set.
  3. Prepare the blue layer: Pour 1 cup boiling water over blueberry gelatin powder. Stir until dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/2 cup vodka and mix well. After the white layer is set, gently add the blue gelatin on top, filling cups to the rim. Chill for at least 2 hours or until fully firm.
  4. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with a small blueberry or a tiny flag toothpick.

Notes

Patience is key to prevent layers from mixing. Let each layer chill until firm but tacky before adding the next. Use a dropper or spoon upside down to pour layers slowly and close to the surface. Keep refrigerated until serving. Can be made up to 3 days ahead. For alcohol-free version, substitute vodka with cold water or lemon-lime soda. Dairy-free white layer can be made with coconut milk and gelatin.
