Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 oz salami
  • 4 oz prosciutto
  • 4 oz pepperoni
  • 4 oz cheddar cheese block
  • 4 oz mozzarella pearls
  • 4 oz gouda or your favorite hard cheese
  • 1/2 cup black olives, pitted
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds, toasted
  • 1 small carrot, peeled
  • Pretzel sticks
  • 1/4 cup candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins
  • 1/4 cup chocolate-covered pretzels
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins
  • Assorted crackers
  • Sliced baguette or crostini

Instructions

  1. Make the spiderweb dip (5 minutes): In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, sour cream, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy. Spoon it into a small serving bowl and smooth the top. Drizzle a little extra sour cream over the top in a spiral pattern, then drag a toothpick from the center outward to create a spiderweb effect.
  2. Prep the meats (3 minutes): Lay out the salami slices and fold each one in half, then in half again to create a little ‘rose’ shape. Arrange them in a cluster on one corner of the board. For the prosciutto, gently ruffle the slices into loose piles. The pepperoni can stay whole or be cut into bat shapes.
  3. Cut the cheeses (3 minutes): Cube the cheddar block into bite-sized pieces. If you have a Halloween cookie cutter, press it into the cheese slices before cubing. Leave the mozzarella pearls whole. Slice the gouda into thin triangles or use a star cutter.
  4. Create the spooky elements (2 minutes): Take the mozzarella pearls and press two tiny olive slices onto each one to make ‘eyes.’ Arrange these on the board. Cut the carrot into thin strips and curl them slightly to look like creepy fingers or worms.
  5. Arrange the board (2 minutes): Place the spiderweb dip bowl in the center or slightly off to one side. Start building outward: cluster the meats together, group the cheeses nearby, and fill the gaps with crackers, pretzels, and bread slices. Scatter the olives, pumpkin seeds, and carrot strips around the board. Add the candy corn and chocolate pretzels in small piles.
  6. Final touches (1 minute): Stand a few pretzel sticks upright in the dip to look like ‘witch’s broomsticks’ or spider legs. Sprinkle a few extra pumpkin seeds over everything for texture.

Notes

Don’t skip softening the cream cheese for a smooth dip. Balance flavors and textures with creamy, crunchy, salty, and sweet elements. Think about color contrast for a vibrant board. Prep the dip and slice meats/cheeses the night before to save time. Don’t stress about perfection—the board looks beautiful even when messy.
