A quick and easy homemade frozen watermelon margarita made with fresh fruit, tequila, and lime juice. Perfect for cooling down on hot summer days with a crisp, juicy burst of flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed and frozen (seedless preferred)
  • 1 cup tequila blanco
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice (about 45 medium limes)
  • ¼ cup simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, or agave nectar)
  • ¼ cup orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau, optional)
  • 1 to 2 cups ice cubes
  • Salt or Tajín for rimming glasses
  • Fresh mint or lime wedges for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Freeze the watermelon: Cut fresh watermelon into roughly 1-inch cubes and spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight for best texture.
  2. Prepare the glasses: Pour salt or Tajín onto a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rims of your glasses, then dip them into the salt to coat. Set aside.
  3. Juice the limes: Squeeze fresh limes to collect ½ cup of juice. Strain to remove pulp if desired.
  4. Make simple syrup (if not pre-made): Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cool before using.
  5. Blend the margarita: Add frozen watermelon cubes, tequila, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, orange liqueur (if using), and 1 cup of ice cubes into a high-speed blender.
  6. Blend until smooth: Pulse on high speed until the mixture is silky and evenly blended, about 1-2 minutes. Add a splash of water or more ice if needed to adjust texture.
  7. Taste and adjust: Add more lime juice for tartness or simple syrup for sweetness if desired. Blend briefly again.
  8. Serve immediately: Pour into prepared glasses, garnish with a lime wedge or fresh mint, and enjoy.

Notes

Freeze watermelon solid for best texture. Use fresh lime juice for brightness. Simple syrup blends smoothly; agave nectar can be used as an alternative. Rim glasses with salt or Tajín for flavor contrast. Adjust ice and water to avoid diluting flavor. Store leftovers in freezer and re-blend before serving.
