This Ultimate Caramel Apple Cider Sangria combines crisp white wine, tart apple cider, warm bourbon, and rich salted caramel for a cozy fall drink that’s perfect for gatherings. It’s quick to make, crowd-pleasing, and tastes like autumn in a glass.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • ½ cup caramel sauce (preferably salted)
  • ½ cup bourbon (e.g., Buffalo Trace or Maker’s Mark)
  • 2 Honeycrisp apples, cored and sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 orange, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3–4 whole cloves (optional)
  • 1 cup sparkling water or ginger ale
  • Ice, for serving
  • For garnish: fresh rosemary sprigs, extra cinnamon sticks, thin apple slices, salted caramel drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm the caramel sauce: Spoon ½ cup caramel sauce into a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 15-20 seconds until thin and pourable.
  2. Prepare the fruit: Wash apples, orange, and lemon. Core apples and slice into thin rounds or half-moons (about ¼-inch thick). Slice orange and lemon into thin rounds.
  3. Combine base ingredients: In a large pitcher, pour the entire bottle of white wine, 2 cups apple cider, and ½ cup bourbon. Add warmed caramel sauce and stir vigorously until fully dissolved.
  4. Add fruit and spices: Gently add sliced apples, orange rounds, lemon rounds, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves (if using). Stir gently to distribute.
  5. Chill and let meld: Cover pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours (overnight is best) to allow flavors to blend.
  6. Add fizz before serving: Remove pitcher from fridge. Remove cloves. Pour in 1 cup sparkling water or ginger ale and stir gently.
  7. Serve over ice: Fill glasses with ice. Pour sangria over ice, ensuring each glass gets fruit and a cinnamon stick. Garnish as desired.

Notes

For best results, chill the sangria for at least 4 hours or overnight. Remove cloves before serving to avoid biting into one. Add sparkling water just before serving to retain fizz. For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with 2 more cups apple cider and a splash of apple cider vinegar, and skip the bourbon. The sangria (without sparkling water) keeps in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
