Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots brewed espresso (about 2 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened oat milk (barista blend recommended)
  • 1 cup ice cubes (large cubes preferred)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso. Let cool for 30-45 seconds.
  2. In a jar or shaker, combine brown sugar and maple syrup.
  3. Pour hot espresso over sweeteners and stir until brown sugar is completely dissolved (about 15 seconds).
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
  5. Add a handful of ice cubes (about 5-6) to the jar. Secure lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until frothy.
  6. Fill a serving glass with fresh ice cubes.
  7. Pour shaken espresso mixture over fresh ice. Slowly add oat milk, pouring over the back of a spoon to layer.
  8. Taste and adjust sweetness or strength as desired.

Notes

For best froth, use barista blend oat milk. Never use the shaken ice in the final drink—it will make it watery. Let espresso cool slightly before shaking to avoid melting all the ice. The sweetener mixture can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
