Black Cat Oreo Truffles: Easy Halloween Treat Recipe

Black Cat Oreo Truffles - featured image

These no-bake Black Cat Oreo Truffles are creepy-cute, ridiculously easy, and disappear faster than anything else on the dessert table. Made with just Oreos, cream cheese, and chocolate, they’re the perfect Halloween party trick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 oz) regular Oreo cookies
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups (12 oz) black candy melts or dark chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening (optional, for thinning chocolate)
  • Yellow candy eyes
  • Black sanding sugar or black sprinkles
  • Pink candy melts or pink icing

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place the entire package of Oreos (filling included) in a food processor. Pulse until you have fine, sand-like crumbs.
  2. Mix with cream cheese: In a large bowl, combine the Oreo crumbs with the softened cream cheese and a pinch of salt. Mix until fully combined and the mixture holds together when pressed.
  3. Shape the truffle bodies: Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Gently pinch two small points on the top of each ball to form ears. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until firm.
  4. Melt the chocolate: About 10 minutes before dipping, melt the black candy melts or dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Add coconut oil or shortening if needed to thin.
  5. Dip the truffles: Working with one at a time, drop a chilled truffle into the melted chocolate. Use a fork to roll it around until fully coated. Lift out, letting excess drip off. Place back on parchment.
  6. Add decorations: While chocolate is still wet, sprinkle black sanding sugar over each truffle. Gently press two yellow candy eyes onto the front. Use a toothpick dipped in pink candy melt to add a tiny nose and inner ear details.
  7. Let them set: Place decorated truffles back in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes until chocolate is completely firm.

Notes

Keep everything cold for easier dipping. Work in small batches, taking only 4-5 truffles out of the fridge at a time. Don’t over-melt the chocolate. The first few truffles might look derpy, but you’ll get the hang of it. These are best served cold.
